  • What is a decade? It is a period of 10 years.

  • Where are the passes? They are along the North-Western portions of the Himalayas.
  • Why do we call India as a Peninsular India?
  •  Because India is surrounded  on three sides by seas.
  • What has encouraged  trade for many many years?
  • The long coastline  with natural ports and harbors.
  • How did the seas help the kingdoms in South India?
  •  To develop strong Navies and go far towards South East Asia and Sri Lanka to establish their territories or colonies.
  • Where are the Northern Plains? They lie between the Indus and the Ganges(Ganga) .
  • What is the effect of this ? It created  a vast area of fertile land.
  • How did the fertile plains help the people?
  • It promoted and encouraged  the growth of Agriculture.
  • What happened then? Many powerful kingdoms established.
  • Where is the Deccan Plateau?
  • Satpura  and Vindhya mountains separate this from the Northern India.
  • What is a Plateau? An area of fairly high level ground.
  • What are the major landforms? Mountains, Plains, Hills and Plateau.
  • What is Archaeology? Study of the remains of  human life in the past.
  • What are Artefacts? Excavated objects like tools, weapons. ornaments, pottery and even toys.
  • What does the Archeologists also inform us?
  • What the people were, and their occupations , trade, which Gods were worshipped, their dress and how they treated the dead.
  • How is History studied? From the written sources like
  • Manuscripts, Inscriptions, Coins  and Monuments.
